I love a good collaboration. Any time a big designer pairs with a more affordable brand to produce something we can all afford, I am all for it! This time the collaboration is between girly-girl designer Cynthia Rowley and girl-power surf brand Roxy. There couldn’t be a more appropriate collaboration. After all, both brands are girls only! No boys allowed in this club house.
We’re still dead in the middle of winter here, I know, but if you can look forward to summer, please do so now! The items from the Rowley/Roxy collaboration will certainly help get you in the mood! The collection consists of neoprene beach cover-ups, spunky sandals and, of course, bathing suits. My absolute favorite treat from the mash-up is a pair of rainbow-color geometric wedges.
But, what I do not get is why the line will be sold exclusively in the U.S. at Barney’s New York stores. At least, at first. Until it is then opened up to Roxy stores nationwide. Hello! Doesn’t that retail plan defeat the purpose? Yes, the collaboration might be a bit of a passion project for Cynthia Rowley, who is apparently a surfer girl, but isn’t the point to also make her designs more accessible? Selling them at Barney’s directly contradicts that goal. Just get the goodies out to stores everywhere so we can all get a chance to buy and enjoy them! I know Barney’s is open to all, but it’s certainly not a store that many cities have in the local mall.
Fortunately, Los Angeles isn’t one of those cities. So, I will probably be there in March when the goods are rolled out. Also, the Internet will allow everyone else to get their surf on, too. I guess the Barney’s debut isn’t so bad, after all.
