The late-night battle with Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien rages on, and now ABC’s late night funnyman Jimmy Kimmel has thrown his two cents into The Situation that’s getting way more intense than Mike’s abs. Two nights ago, Jimmy did a mean impersonation of Jay, and I guess Jay tried to get revenge by having him appear on the canceled Jay Leno Show last night as part of Jay’s “10 @ 10″ segment, where Jay asks random celebrities 10 questions about themselves. Check out the video:

Yowza. All these late-night jabs are getting awkward! I’m not really sure if Jay is mad at Jimmy about the impersonation, or jealous for being on a better network, or just kind of bitter at the world, but Jay definitely seemed to have it out for him. Unfortunately for Jay, he ended up being the one who appeared to “lose” the battle of wit. “The best prank I ever pulled was I told a guy that, five years from now, I’m going to give you my show,” Jimmy said. “And then when the five years came, I gave it to him, and then I took it back almost instantly.”

Jimmy also criticized Jay’s relationship with Conan: “Strippers, I don’t like in general, because you have this phony relationship with them for money, similar to that of when you and Conan were on The Tonight Show together, passing the torch,” Jimmy said. “You know what I’m saying.”

It sounds like we’re about to add Team Jimmy to the roster.

For readers too young to recall - or, perhaps, just not interested in late night TV, back then - it might help your understanding of the current Leno vs O'Brien mess if you get some background on the original Leno vs Letterman feud. Here's the full story of how Jay Leno took over the 'The Tonight Show' hosting gig from long-time host Johnny Carson, way back in 1993. . http://bit.ly/6FjAQq (complete article - NY Times; 1994)
