These days it seems most people are worried about cell phones and texting while driving, but what about the dangerous distraction that’s been tempting us all since the first Model T hit the road: eating while driving? From hot coffee to messy tacos, here’s a list of insurance.com’s most dangerous foods to eat while driving.
HOT Liquids
For obvious reasons (scalding spills, anyone?) hot beverages and other foods, like soup, are a big no-no when driving because even a small splash can be enough to cause the driver to startle, take their eyes off the road, and possibly even swerve unexpectedly.
Anything Greasy
Greasy foods like tacos, fried chicken, barbecued anything, and sloppy burgers can not only lead to distractions like dripping sauce and loose lettuce bits but grease on food leads to grease on hands, which leads to grease on steering wheel and difficulty making turns. Not a good combo!
Gooey Goodies
Jelly-filled donuts, saucy burritos, and other gooey goodies do much the same thing as greasy foods do: they get their stickiness all over your hands and steering wheel and make driving difficult (not to mention cause stressful and distracting stains).
