Having more beautiful skin is a fight won and lost daily by women the world over, but did you know the answer could be as simple as changing the way you sleep? Here are four ways to sleep your way to better skin.
Sleep on your back
This is a tough one for me, but it might be worth the effort considering laying on your stomach or side every night can actually “etch’” lines into your face where your skin creases against the pillow. If you really can’t get comfy face-side-up, then invest in a satin pillowcase — the silky-smooth texture can help prevent tugging and crinkles.
Humidify
This time of year, the dry, hot air that comes pumping out of your heater is wreaking havoc on your skin, drying it out something terrible. Getting a humidifier will help combat the dryness by moistening the air, and your skin.
Focus on quality
Your body uses sleep to repair and rejuvenate your skin (hence the dark circles and dull skin when you’re tired) so the better sleep you get the better rejuvenation you’ll get as well. Limit alcohol and caffeine, make sure your room is cool and dark, and try to get up and go to bed at the same time each night.
Raise up
Elevating your head slightly (i.e. by stacking an extra pillow or two under your head and shoulders) can help prevent puffiness by keeping fluid from settling in your face and under your eyes.
