Jessica Biel’s Rural-Chic Vogue Cover

When I first saw the cover of Vogue‘s February issue I thought: beautiful photo, great styling, but who the hell cares about Jessica Biel? She’s an actress better known for her relationship with pop star Justin Timberlake than for her challenging film roles. Her new film “Valentine’s Day” (well, her’s as well as about a million other stars’) comes out in February, obviously, which explains the Vogue feature. But, really? Does yet another mediocre film make her worthy of the cover?

Turns out, it does. Apparently, the movie was enough for Vogue.  But, as I was trying to find out more about Biel, if only to get a fair picture of the actress before promptly ripping her apart for being the no-talent pretty face that she is, I found out that her philanthropic accomplishments far outweigh any of her film work. Which, isn’t hard to do, honestly, but is a far more laudable achievement anyway. If her long and undistinguished film career is what allowed her to delve into the social causes she has, then I guess it’s all been worth it. Even “Stealth.”

Recently, Biel was among a group of actors, musicians and activists who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as part of the Summit on the Summit project to raise awareness about the clean water crisis. Add to that her involvement with other charities, including the Make The Difference Network which she co-founded with her father, and she’s become quite the do-gooder. So that’s why she hasn’t made any good movies. She’s too busy helping others.

I guess her Christy Turlington-eqsue All-American Vogue shoot is truly justified. It’s also quite a refreshing change from the neon colors, punk fashion and bizarre make-up gracing the covers of so many other magazines on newsstands today. Not that I don’t also enjoy those, but sometimes a little Americana by way of Ralph Lauren and bucolic country glamour is nice. And, Jessica Biel on the cover of next month’s Vogue is like a slice of apple pie.
