A Little Junk in Your Trunk is Good for Your Health

Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez really do have “healthy curves.”

A new study in the International Journal of Obesity says it’s healthy to have some junk in your trunk; and definitely more healthy than storing it around your stomach.

Just like cholesterol, or better yet, like nutrition, there are good fats and bad fats in your body. The Oxford University researchers found that your gluteofemoral fat (butt fat) is better for your health than the fat that accumulates around your middle.

Butt fat is harder to shift than abdominal fat, which means it produces fewer chemicals that can contribute to heart disease, obesity and diabetes. Butt fat also acts as a sponge, soaking up the rouge bad fat cells that break off and float around your body.

Abdominal circumference compared to waist circumference is often used as a predictor of heart disease. Being bootylicious, as opposed to having a belly, cuts your levels of “bad” cholesterol and raises levels of the “good” cholesterol that protect against atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries.

Unfortunately, you cannot decide where your body stores its fat. Some women are prone to gaining weight around their middle, and will keep slender gams, and others will have any weight head straight to their thighs. Being of a healthy weight is of the utmost importance and something everyone should try to achieve and maintain, but if you constantly scrutinize your thighs and butt, remember they are doing you a duty — and you should be proud of your curves.
