Seeing gigantic guys lifting obscene amounts of weight is almost enough to turn any woman off from serious exercise. Not that I mind muscular guys, mind you. I just don’t want to look like them.
Like so many things, home fitness equipment doesn’t always jump the gender gap easily.
Meeting with a Personal Trainer
Before you buy expensive home fitness equipment, you need to know what your fitness goals are and what types of products will help you reach them. If you don’t belong to a gym that has a personal trainer, then I would suggest asking your friends to recommend someone that they trust.
A lot of people avoid personal trainers because they charge high fees. It’s true. Most personal trainers charge pretty high prices for their services. If you choose a good one, though, then it’s worth it. They can also help you work efficiently and safely so that you meet your goals quickly without getting hurt.
Consider also that you don’t necessarily need to meet with a personal trainer every week. Or even every month. Lots of trainers provide consulting services to help individuals develop routines that they can implement on their own. A reliable personal trainer should be able to give you information about the home exercise equipment that will help you reach your goals.
After designing a routine, you don’t have to hire the trainer again until you want to integrate new exercises into your workout. Depending on your goals, you might only need to meet with a trainer a couple times a year. If that prevents you from spending a lot of money on home fitness equipment that you won’t use, then you’ve already saved yourself lots of cash and time.
Getting Started with Home Fitness Equipment
If you are just now getting interested in taking better care of your body, then you might not be ready to invest in expensive home fitness equipment. That’s okay. There are plenty of inexpensive products that will help you get in shape.
Cross country ski machines are one of my favorite pieces of home fitness equipment. You can often find used cross country ski machines that won’t cost a lot of money, and they are great for people at all levels of fitness. Not only do they provide a full-body aerobic workout that targets several major muscle groups, they are very low-impact. If you have problems with your knees, ankles, or backs, then this will help you get into shape without injuring yourself.
Inexpensive Home Fitness Equipment
Those of us on a budget, though, might find that even a few hundred dollars is a large investment. If you’re really keeping those purse strings tight, then you should consider purchasing inexpensive home fitness equipment like yoga balls and resistance bands. You can pick these up at almost any store for under 20 bucks and they will really add to your workout.
Once you start meeting your fitness goals by dropping weight and getting toned, you might feel inspired to take your workout routine to the next level. When that time comes, you should really think about meeting with a personal trainer to make sure that you proceed safely and effectively.
