This delightful little recipe comes from my friend’s mom. As she is a great cook, it is no surprise that this is absolutely addictive and wonderful. It is chocolate and toffee and delicious and crunchy and so easy to make you will not be able to believe it.
For best results, make it the night before Valentine’s Day (somehow when given the chance to settle in it gets even better). Then haul it out for some holiday indulgence. Sweets to the sweet.
Chocolate Toffee Bark
- 1 box of graham crackers (original, not cinnamon). You will use less than 1/2 box.
- 2 sticks of butter
- 1 cup of brown sugar, packed
- One 12 oz pack of milk chocolate bits (you can also use semi-sweet or dark chocolate)
- 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (any kind–I like pecans or walnuts)
Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and butter it generously. Lay on the graham crackers – covering the cookie sheet completely.
In a pan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Bring to a boil and simmer for 3-4 minutes.
Pour over graham crackers. Put in a 400 degree oven for about 4-5 minutes.
Take out of oven and sprinkle the chocolate bits all over. After the chocolate is melted (a few minutes), you can use a spatula to gently smooth the chocolate.
Sprinkle with the nuts. Let cool completely (you can use the refrigerator). Once the chocolate is hardened, you can cut it in squares – or simply break it into pieces. The longer you let it cool the better. A pizza cutter is a perfect tool for cutting these.
For a fun alternative, consider using Saltines instead of Graham Crackers are also good for a salty/chocolate combination.
