Father of Nancy Kerrigan Dies; Brother Mark Arrested for Assault

Mark Kerrigan, brother of Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, has been arrested and charged with assaulting their 70 year-old father, who was found dead yesterday. According to MyFoxBoston, police are looking into the death of Daniel Kerrigan, who passed away suddenly yesterday morning in the family’s home in Stoneham, outside Boston.

Mark Kerrigan, the victim’s 45-year-old son, faces arraignment today on a charge of assault and
battery on a person over 60 that resulted in injuries. Emergency crews were sent to the home around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after getting reports of an unresponsive male. Daniel Kerrigan was then taken to Winchester Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Mark and his father got into an argument late Saturday night after Mark wanted to use the kitchen phone his dad said no. Police say Mark was drunk and the argument escalated into a shoving match. It took four cops to removed Mark from the house.

According to police, Mark grabbed his father by the neck and Daniel fell to the ground. 911 was called and when EMTs arrived, Daniel was not breathing, but had a faint pulse. Daniel Kerrigan later died at the hospital.

The district attorney’s office will determine if more charges will be filed. Brenda Kerrigan, Daniel’s wife, told the Boston Herald that her husband died of a heart attack and there was nothing suspicious about his death. Wow, what a sad story.
