Wash_Face_1If your skin isn’t as clear and luminous as you’d like it to be it might not be a makeup problem so much as a “how you wash your face” problem. It’s been a part of your daily routine since you started middle school, but are you sure you’re doing it right? A surprising number of us aren’t (I know I learned a thing or two).

Wash in warm water

Cold water constricts pores and keeps the dirt in, while hot water strips moisture and leaves delicate skin cells damaged. Warm water relaxes pores so your cleanser can do its job.

Choose a cleanser for your skin type

Choosing a cleanser that’s geared for oily skin, dry skin, normal skin, or sensitive skin is not a gimmick but a necessity. Choose the right cleanser and your skin will thank you.

Wash thoroughly, rinse thoroughly

Work the cleanser gently with your fingertips or a soft washcloth for about 15 seconds (being careful around the delicate eye area), then rinse thoroughly by splashing your face with water about six times. Soap residue left on the skin can make it appear dull and lifeless, and potentially cause breakouts.

Pat, don’t rub

Rubbing freshly washed skin can irritate it (not to mention contribute to fine lines) so pat dry with a soft, absorbent towel.

Moisturize!

Remember that even oily skin needs moisturizer — just make sure it’s an appropriate formula.
