tim-tebow-1Tim Tebow can handle college ball, but can he handle the backlash he’s getting from pro-choicers around the country? According to WESH TV Orlando, the 22-year-old Florida Gators quarterback and Heisman trophy winner will star in an upcoming Superbowl ad sponsored by the Christian group Focus on the Family, and it carries a pretty strong anti-abortion message.

The commercial describes how Tebow’s mother ignored recommendations to abort her fifth child after falling sick during a trip to the Philippines. The child she refused to abort was Tebow.

Tebow spoke about the commercial at a news conference in Mobile, Alabama, where he will participate in the Senior Bowl over the weekend. “Some people won’t agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe, and I’m never shy about that, and I don’t feel like I’m preachy about it,” Tebow said.

What do you guys think? Is this ad completely inappropriate, or do Tebow and Focus on the Family have the right to buy ad time like everyone else? (By the way, 30-second Super Bowl ads cost between $2.5 million and $2.8 million.) “An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year — an event designed to bring Americans together,” Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women’s Media Center, told the New York Daily News.

Instead of Focus on the Family speaking out against abortion, which is a wedge issue, no matter who you are young, old, rich ,poor, it is a matter of personal choice; point blank and period. How about they spend 2.5 million in support of sex education? you take driving lessons to learn how not to crash, you take cooking lessons so you don't poison yoursefl, and guess what learing about responsibility, abstinence and contraception teaches you NOT to do?.....

I am almost as disgusted with the Tebow ad as I am with this web site for posting that exploitive anti-abortion widget next to a woman with her "titties" (your word) hanging out. I might have just sighed over Tebow, since I wouldn't watch the game anyway but now you can bet I will surely make some loud complaints and ask taht it not be aired in my city. Abortion is legal in the United States. A woman has the right to choose. Discuss abortion on Oprah, not on the SUper Bowl.

Afraid of allowing the constitutional right of Free Speech. "You can't handle the truth!" When you don't like the truth, you apply the "gag rule".

It is very telling that the same folks who have no problem with the murder of infants in the womb will scream about the civil rights of terrorists, murderers and rapists being violated.
