The dresses at Saturday night’s SAG Awards were all about sexy, sleek, colorful glamour. There was nary a gargantuan ballgown in sight. And barely any black to be seen either. But, don’t think it was just the women getting in on the sexy theme for the night. The men turned up the heat as well.

This awards season, Alexander McQueen is king of the red carpet! He dressed Cameron Diaz and Anna Paquin at the Golden Globes and they were two of the stunners of the evening. For the SAG Awards, he once again dressed Paquin, although this time the outcome was not good. Her reptilian-kaleidoscope print mini-dress was too casual, if not trashy, for the red carpet. Fortunately, McQueen’s rep was saved by Sandra Bullock who wore his form-fitting black gown with electric-blue beading around the collar. It was a bold choice for the usually sunny Sandra. She was the best-dressed of the night, hands down.

A few ladies came close though. Kate Hudson kept with white and this time she did it oh-so-right in a slinky backless long-sleeve gown. A far cry from her white Marchesa mess at the Globes. As to whatever Kyra Sedgwick is drinking, I want some. The actress looked 15 years younger with side-swept bangs and a white strapless Vera Wang gown with gray sash and crystal embellishments. “Glee” star Lea Michele must have taken all the negative comments about her overwhelming black ballgown from the Golden Globes to heart. At the SAG Awards she showed up in a plunging green Malandrino dress. Paired with flowing hair, she looked gorgeous. And, then there was Mo’Nique. She looked the best she ever has in a pale-pink v-neck gown with crystal detailing on the short sleeves. She just looked like a classy lady. Oh, and I desperately wanted to vote Diane Kruger best-dressed, but couldn’t because her gorgeous marigold gown was a complete re-do of Michelle Williams’ dress from the Oscars in 2006. Do your homework Diane! But she did look stunning, no doubt about that.

Colin Firth really represented for the men. Perhaps it’s because he’s English. Or because his film “A Single Man” was directed by fashion designer Tom Ford.  Either way, Colin Firth looked dashing in a one-button tuxedo, his gray-streaked hair slightly tousled. Kevin Bacon dressed in all black, the perfect complement to his wife’s ethereal white gown. And John Hamm look like a metrosexual lumberjack (that’s a good thing), with a full beard and pinstripe suit.

There was just too much good style at the SAG Awards to even bother talking about the fashion baddies. But, let’s just say it was a roundup of the usual suspects and that Patricia Arquette was involved.
