Hate Your Life? Change These Things NOW

967042_meditationHate your life? Who doesn’t every now and then? Especially this time of year, when the glam and warm-fuzzies of the holiday season are over and just the cold doldrums of winter are left. If you find yourself wishing things were different in some part of your life (or in several parts, perhaps) then you should do something about it. Some things — like getting a different job or finding Mr. Right — are at the mercy of outside forces and might take time, but other things are completely under your control and can be changed right now.

How you look. You can change your hair, your clothes, even your posture and instantly appear taller, shorter, preppier, grungier, whatever. Most importantly if you feel better about the way you look you’ll appear more confident and be more attractive.

Where you spend your time. Tired of looking at the same old scenes every day? Then change things up and take a different route to work, switch gyms, or simply buy a new piece of artwork to update the look of your apartment.

The way you look at life. Sick of being a pessimist? Then start retraining your brain by consciously thinking realistic but positive thoughts. Eventually you’ll rewire your brain to err on the bright side of things instead of the negative.

Your stress level. It’s impossible to remove all stressors, but you can certainly reduce them, thus lowering your total stress level (and every little bit counts!). If remembering to pay bills is a frustration, then set up automatic payments with your bank. If you’re upset that you keep blowing off your exercise routine, then figure out why it isn’t working and switch to a different routine that will (or get a workout buddy to help keep you motivated). Also try a few minutes of meditation daily and make sure you’re getting enough quality sleep.
