Kelis recently showed up at an awards show in an outfit that came out of left field. Literally, it looked like she walked straight out of a pasture and onto the green carpet in an outfit that can only be described as “the donkey outfit.” Now, why any self-respecting woman would intentionally make herself look like an ass is beyond me. But, it happened. And, now, Kelis must be kicking herself over the whole thing.
The buzz around this outfit has the feel of a circus sideshow. If all the people who commented on various blogs about Kelis’ outfit were to gather around her, there would be pointing and snickering. People would throw their heads back in laughter while the poor frightened donkey looked for an escape from the jeering mob. Oh, wait, that’s ”Pinocchio.” But, it applies to this situation. People are calling Kelis a Lady Gaga wannabe. Perhaps, but Kelis was always pretty daring in her fashion choices. Only, in the past the risks usually paid off. I’ve always thought she was a really fabulous dresser. But funky turned to donkey and now I’m not sure what to expect from Kelis.
Not only are the pink latex bodysuit and scary cloven-hove shoes bizarre, but Kelis also died her hair gray. And then added a long tail that extended from her head almost to the floor. Then she topped it off with horns, painted-on eyelashes and nose chains. She was obviously going for a donkey look. This was no accident. And that’s upsetting. It is far less “ha-ha” and way more “hee-haw.”

Kelis made headlines thats what she did. And what ppl failed 2 realize is dat she PERFORMED at that award show. She didnt just dress like this to be in the audience. If it was someone white they would be consider high fashion.

What? Don't make this about race. Lady Gaga dresses like a fool and many people think she looks like a fool, too. Me included.

First off, this is old news. Second, had someone white done this, i.e, Lady Gaga everyone would have been on her dick...literaly. As acapella stated, she performed at the award show and the look was quit fitting for the stage. And Kendra, it is about race. I'm a fashion student and high fashion is regarded a blasphemy when a person of color does it. While everyone is commenting on how ridiculous she looks they fail to realize that she is just being her, like it or not. Also, did you all know that Alexander McQueen only made 2 pair of those particular Armadillo heels and he wanted Kelis to have a pair. He has stated being a fan of Kelis since she debuted in 1999. Do you remember her album cover from Kaleidoscope back in '99? Nude and painted all over? That was when people considered her a freak and wanted nothing to do with her. Now, that Gaga and Rihanna is doing it ten years later everyone is acting like it's some type of revolution. How late these people are. Fashion is art. Kelis is an artist and has her own style. You have to respect her for that. Just because it's something you might not neccessarily wear or maybe you're too fat to wear high fashion or maybe you're too worried about what strangers think of you. Whatever the case, she can afford it and she will continue wearing high fashion regardless of what anyone thinks. People are so quick to judge other people as if they are golden and everything they do is acceptable. Get a life. Moving on...growing up.

Since when does having an opinion make a person a "hater?" I wish people would at least come up with a new word. That one's worn out it's welcome. "HatersUnite" if this is such old news, why'd you feel the need to comment? I watched kelis' performance and just about any outfit would have worked. Oh, also, fashion is subjective. And kelis is a public figure. So her wardrobe is up for public comment. And my comment is that this outfit was awful. This ONE outfit. If you read the post, you'll see that I actually respect Kelis' risk-taking when it comes to style, but this was just ridiculous. Oh, there I go again calling her names and being a "hater." Whoops.

Dear Kendra, Having an opinion doesn't make a person a "hater". Comments like "Kelis makes an ass out of herself...Literally!", does. I've never read your blog before. Did you know that your headline is indexed on google that way? How do you think Kelis would feel if she read your headline? You shouldn't say things about people if you don't want to be labeled a hater. By the way, I'm sorry the word hater is current enough for you but it is so fitting. Whatever happended to "if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all?" Why go out of your way to call someone out of their name? An ass? Seriously, how old are you? You come off as very immature. This is the problem with the world today. Too many people voicing their opinions when they are better keep to themselves. What may seem ridiculous to you may be just wonderful to someone else. All I'm saying is don't post headlines calling someone an ass. What do you look like? What do you wear? Maybe you're not aware of this but for every one bad thing you say about someone ten more are being said about you. If you can't be nice then do yourself a favor and zip it honey. I'm sure there are people who don't like everything you wear but they keep it to themselves. Don't judge and you won't be judged. In my book you are a hater. Kelis gets paid to do what she does, you don't get paid to hate. Like I said, moving on...growing up.

Yes, there are plenty of words above that don't make sense. It happens with this darn iPhone changing words not intended. Whatever. So come with something other than that. -_-

A. the headline is a pun. a double entendre. i wasn't calling her an ass as a person, it was a play on words: ass=donkey. B. we're not in 3rd grade anymore. people have opinions. bad and good. i'm sorry you think that people voicing their opinions is the problem with the world today. that's scary. i'm not judging kelis, i'm judging one outfit. C. welcome to the "haters" club. by calling me immature and going on for days about how I'm a hater, i guess you just became a hater of me. D. i'm worried, you said you are a fashion student. i hope you're not studying design because how will you handle any negative criticism? E. have you read any of the nice posts i've written? people always jump on the negative posts, but no one ever seems to say, "hey, thanks for writing such a nice story on so and so." F. a very smart person once told me that other people's opinions of me are none of my business. think about it. Enough.

Truce Kendra! I've never read your site before. I just happened to do a blog search on Kelis in hopes of information regarding the new album and there was your headline. So, to a new reader it would come off as negative and perhaps disuade them from even wanting to read more. That's all I'm trying to say. The point is, we all need to be nice and respectful of each other, even as strangers and especially as women. You never know who's watching or listening to your words. Now that we've had the opportunity to go tic for tac I'll probably visit your site again in spite of this one disagreement. No harm, no foul. (^_^)
