The most popular date night of the year falls on a Sunday this year, so you can bet your box of Junior Mints, couples will be flocking to the theater this weekend. Whether you’re heading out for a romantic midday matinee, or a quiet night for two on the town, here’s what you’ll find this week at a theater near you.
Okay, I know I have long list of hot reasons to check out a movie, and while “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” (PG) looks like it’ll be a fun film for the young at heart, I have two words for you: Sean Bean. Percy Jackson is a young man with an extraordinary heritage. He’s the son of the Greek god Poseidon. Percy becomes the prime suspect when Zeus’s lightning bolt turns up missing, and finds himself slapped into the middle of an epic, Mount Olympus battle. Action, adventure and otherworldly excitement, if you’re a fan of Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings, you’ll definitely want to check out “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.”
Jam-packed with a stellar cast of Hollywood favorites, from Julia Roberts and Jennifer Garner to Jamie Foxx and Ashton Kutcher, “Valentine’s Day” (PG-13) follows several Los Angeles couples and singles through the the lover’s holiday. If you’re a big fan of romantic comedies, but don’t usually get to drag your beau to see them, you might be able to use the lover’s holiday as leverage to see this film together. Oh, come on. Don’t tell me you didn’t think about that on your own.
What better excuse does a girl need to curl up to her honey than a good horror flick? Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins star in the retelling of Hollywood classic, “The Wolfman” (R), about a young man who returns to his family estate to search for his missing brother. Coinciding with his brother’s disappearance are strange, vicious attacks that even Scotland Yard explains as all-but-natural. When he sets out into the woods to try and discover the nature of the beast, he unveils a hidden side of himself waiting to break free. The effects in this movie look absolutely amazing.
I cannot wait to see “The Wolfman,” this weekend. What can I say? I love a good horror-provoked cuddle!
