Product Review: Full Bars and Full Bites

full-bites-1
Fullbars, from the beFull line, is one of the newest weight loss products to hit the market and promises to fill you up so you won’t over eat, resulting in weight loss.

When I received my snacks to try, I was and still am confused by this product.  Fullbars, and the newest edition to the line, Fullbites, are snacks designed to fill you up so you eat less and lose weight.  The snacks run about 150-160 calories, and are to be eaten 30 minutes before your meal, along with 8 ounces of water.  I checked the ingredient label and there is nothing special about them.  The packaging itself doesn’t even offer an explanation as to why you should eat the Full-brand products instead of a different healthy snack 30 minutes before your meal with water.  If you dig around the website, you find that the ingredients are supposed to expand in your stomach giving you a feeling of being full on less food, but why can’t you just eat an apple, with all of it’s fiber, vitamin and watery goodness, for even less calories?

The other problem I have with this product is that not many people actually stop eating when they are full.  I don’t think being full is the issue.  We eat way beyond the point of being full.  Portion control is usually the culprit when it comes to over eating, and thus, weight gain.  If the food is in front of you, you are most likely going to eat it, even if you are full or had a snack 30 minutes earlier.

People don’t eat for survival or they would stop when they are satisfied.  People eat for different reasons, especially those people that have weight issues.  Most of the time, people eat for fun, pleasure, to celebrate, drown their sorrows or just out of boredom.  Rarely do people eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full, especially in the middle of a meal.

So after all that, here’s the weird thing:  I think they work. Rather, I think these snacks are more filling than the average 160 calorie snack.  There is not a universal scale for measuring fullness, but made with whole grains, and puffy ones that expand in your belly at that, I was considerably more full and satisfied than I would have been by the average snack.  The sheer size of the snacks is enough to trick you into fullness, even when you know that most of it is air.

I don’t really get the 30 minute thing-it’s not like you magically get full 30 minutes after eating a Fullbar.  You are full right after eating it, just like any other food source, just more full than you would expect.

They are surprisingly good, too.  The cheddar Full Bites reminded me of Combos without the filling, and the Cocoa Chip Full Bar tasted like a chocolate Rice Krispie treat.

Are these going to give you amazing weight loss results?  Doubtful, especially if it’s the only thing you try.  But I would recommend these for emergency, low calorie snacks that will definitely hold you over until you can get a proper meal, or even just for a guilt-free snack.

  1. Interesting review that you think they actually kind of work! I’m a little skeptical just because often it ISN’T about the food for why people overeat. Even so, I quite like rice krispie treats :D

  2. yeah they tasted terrible and that wouldnt have bothered me if they would work! but of course they didn’t, at least not for me. i finally know i must diet and exersize to lose the weight i want. there is no easy way out and if you truly want to lose it, dont waste your time and money on pills, and bars that insist you lose weight when eating them!

  3. Nice review…it pretty much summed up my experience with them. I just finished my first ever bag of sour cream & onion, and I have to say, very tasty. And I was starving but nowhere near a restaurant here in NYC, but I pulled over to get one of these (bought a muscle milk drink, that in itself can get you buy if moderately hungry), and I am not hungry 15 min later. So I guess this works!!
