Sometimes fashion is just downright ridiculous. Like on “Project Runway” when contestants were challenged to make garments out of burlap sacks. This week I have two such unusual items to tell you about. Both are made from or resemble commonly used items. One isn’t for sale and the other sells for thousands. One aims to educate people and the other to mock them. One is made from latex and the other from plastic. The most ridiculous fashion creations of the week are: condom dresses and trash bag purses.
Let’s talk about sex. And STDs. The condom dresses designed by artist Adriana Bertini really get people talking. They are on display at Manhattan’s Museum of Sex as a centerpiece for an exhibition about the history of condoms and all their various predecessors. If you’re worried that this is an excessive waste of rubbers, fear not. All the condoms used have been quality-test rejected. And they are hand-died by the artist. Which astounds me. The designs are rather intricate and beautiful. Who knew condoms could be beautiful?
Meanwhile, Louis Vuitton is busy taking out the trash. And charging people $1,960 to do it. The French brand that cranks out more “It” bags than humanly necessary, is now mocking their addicted clientele with this latest offering. Though it is not actually made from a trash bag, it quite literally looks like it’s Hefty bag inspiration. Except it’s got the words “Louis Vuitton” printed on it. Would you buy it?
