325,199 people on Facebook think Betty White should host an episode of SNL. The octogenarian comedienne turned 88 in January of this year, and has been working in television since 1949. She gave us 4 seasons of Joyce Whitman on the Mary Tyler Moore show, and 7 immortal seasons of Rose Nyland on the Golden Girls.
Recent SNL hosts have included the extreeeeeemely funny hosting skills of Megan Fox (23) , January Jones (32), and Taylor Lautner (18). Sigourney Weaver is this season’s oldest host at age 59 (Ripley will turn 60 later this year). It almost makes one want to wonder out loud, is SNL age-ist?
Does SNL not realize Betty White is still cracking us up? Whether she’s teasing co-star Rue McClanahan to drop dead so she can be the last Golden Girl, or taking a tackle into the mud in one of this year’s most memorable Superbowl Ads, or strangely appearing in a popular internet meme, Betty White remains an eternal fountain of funny.
And don’t forget White’s lifelong passion for animal advocacy. Betty White has been on the Morris Animal Foundation board of trustees since 1971 and has sponsored nearly 30 health studies for them. Is there anything this lady doesn’t rock at? Rock for? What would Rose Nyland say?
And who would be the best musical guest for Betty to introduce? Leave a comment!
