Family Guy Skewers Palins

I love Family Guy. And I hate the Palins.
What better, then, than an episode of Family Guy which pokes fun at the Palins? Nothing, obviously.

In this week’s episode of Family Guy Chris goes on a date with a girl with Down syndrome who, when asked about her family, says that her mother is the former Governor of Alaska. They don’t ever say “Palin” and the mentally disabled person in question is a girl, not a boy, but still, the point is clear.

According to the LA Times, Sarah Palin posted her feelings about this on Facebook, saying it felt like “a kick in the gut.” Which, to be fair, it probably kind of was. I would even feel bad for her, if I didn’t think she was such an evil person. An evil person who you almost never see with her disabled son, Trig–a child whom you would expect would require quite a bit of care.

And who has cried wolf about lots of other things–such as Letterman making jokes about her daughter. The thing is, that when you make a habit about being thin-skinned to the extreme, and making a constant fuss about little things, while calling out others, it lessens the point when you really might deserve empathy.

As for Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane, his publicist released the following statement, “From its inception, Family Guy has used biting satire as the foundation of its humor. The show is an “equal-opportunity offender.” Sounds about right to me.
