Tid-bits From the Tents: 2010 New York Fashion Week

Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is in full swing. In fact, it’s almost fully swung, what with just one day left. That means a lot of stuff has already gone down under the tents in Manhattan. Even though there are still some heavy hitters yet to show here are a few highlights, fashion morsels and trends that have already had their moments on the runway.

Purveyor-of-party-dresses Erin Fetherston faked everyone out when she claimed Nico was the muse for her Fall 2010 collection. The 1960s scenester famously wore pantsuits. Fetherston loves designing pretty dresses. Sure she threw in a couple pantsuits here and there, but her collection was mostly really pretty flowy dresses in orange, cream and lilac. Still lovely, but more Erin than Nico. The collection finished with some very glam black and gold dresses and tux jackets.

Marc Jacobs and Erin Fetherston proved there is no truth to the saying “men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses” by sending bespectacled models down the runway, one after the other. Bookworm-chic is in!

Plaid coats were everywhere. You couldn’t get away from them at Jason Wu, Bensoni, Adam Lippes and Chris Benz.

Red velvet isn’t just a tasty cupcake, it was a major theme in Zac Posen’s Fall 2010 collection. Delicious!

Reigning model of the moment Karlie Kloss closed shows for top designers like Carolina Herrera and Jason Wu. But, fresh-face Lindsey Wixsonwas the rising star under the tents, walking in shows for Marc Jacos, Jill Stuart, Zac Posen, Rag & Bone, DKNY and Lacoste.

Rodarte did Fall without a stitch of black and it was fabulous! As if Rodarte can be anything other than fabulous.

And after Jason Wu debuted his collection everyone immediately wondered: what pieces would Michelle Obama wear?
