American Idol is down to its top 24 contestants – and Chris Golightly was removed at the last second. According to CNN, the remaning contenders are: Alex Lambert (apparently no relation to Adam), Lacey Brown, Crystal Bowersox, Janell Wheeler, Katie Stevens, Michelle Delamore, Siobhan Magnus, Lilly Scott, John Park, Joe Munoz, Ashley Rodriguez, Haeley Vaughn, Paige Miles, Tyler Grady, Jermaine Sellers, and Andrew Garcia.
Fan favorite Chris Golightly was replaced at the last minute by contestant Tim Urban. According to a press release from Fox, it was determined that Golightly was ineligible to continue in the competition. Samantha Musa, who had also made it to Hollywood week, Tweeted about the sitch: “He was disqualified yesterday, after already being told he was in the top 24, over some bogus old contract,” she said. “The contract expired, but they disqualified him for not telling them.”
It’s a suspicious situation, since “Big Mike” Lynche was NOT disqualified when his dad gossiped about his son making into the top 24 (breaking Idol’s confidentiality agreement). I wonder why some rules are more important than others.
There are plenty of touching backstories this year on Idol. Golightly had touched hearts with his story of being brought up in foster care. Angela Martin, who also did not make the top 24, was trying to be American Idol for the third time. The first time she made it to Hollywood, her father was murdered. The second time she ended up in jail over traffic tickets.
