AT&T Announces First Android Phone: The Motorola Backflip

motorola-backflip-1Those backflips are so hot right now…and I’m not talking about Olympic gold medalist Shaun White’s ridiculous Double McTwist 1260. According to PC World, AT&T has announced its first android phone: The Motorola Backflip.

Customers will be able to purchase the BackFlip on Mar. 7 for $99, following a $100 rebate, with a two-year agreement required to take advantage of the discount.

“Motorola Backflip brings together the best of social networking with the nation’s fastest 3G network,” said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, in a statement. “With the ability to ride on our newest and fastest 3G network, access to more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots, and the ability to talk and surf at the same time, Backflip boasts a better 3G experience.”

As the name suggests, the most innovative feature about the Backflip is the hardware design. Closed, the keyboard and screen both face out. A user can flip it flat, or into a sort of V-shape to stand it on a table and watch a movie clip. Propped up in its V shape, it also works as a digital picture frame or alarm clock. It also grates cheese and removes unwanted hair. Just kidding. But as someone who has a phone with both a touch screen and a keyboard, I know they’re pretty cool!
