Crystal Gail Mangum, Stripper from Duke Controversy, Charged with Attempted Murder

crystal-gale-1Remember Crystal Gail Mangum? She’s the stripper who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape four years ago. Now, the former exotic dancer is in the headlines again, and this time it’s for crimes she’s thought to have commited, including attempted murder and arson. According to CBS News, she was arrested late Wednesday.

North Carolina police responding to a domestic violence call found Mangum and her boyfriend Milton Walker, 33, fighting. Mangum scratched, punched and threw objects at Walker and told him, “I’m going to stab you, (expletive)!” according to police documents. Police also said Mangum went into the bathroom and set some clothes on fire. You know, why not? Three kids were in the house but no one was hurt.

The full list of charges against Mangum include attempted murder, arson, assault and battery, identity theft, communicating threats, damage to property, resisting an officer and child endangerment, according to Durham County jail records. Yowza. I’m not even sure what “communicating threats” means. I also wonder whose identity she stole…maybe someone who doesn’t seem so crazy?

For more insight into the mind of this woman, check out Mangum’s 2008 book, The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story. I guess we’ll never really know the truth about those Duke Lacross players.
