If you could be magically endowed with the ability to do any winter Olympic sport what you choose? No worries about your job or your family or your safety, just pure fantasy: what looks like the most fun?
I shot a poll out to Twitter and Facebook the other day asking that same question and was totally surprised at the results — although I got a mix of responses cross country skiing or biathalon was by far the most popular answer. Maybe it’s just my particular mix of online friends but the incredible endurance and overall fitness required to excel at cross-country is apparently very inspiring, although to me (and I’m just being honest here) it looks like one of the most boring and uninteresting of all the choices. But then cross country is a kind of winter version of running marathons and I’m not a fan of those either.
So what would you choose? Endurance as in cross-country and biathalon, speed as in speed skating and the luge, thrills as in snowboarding and downhill skiing, or artistry as in figure skating and ice dancing?
It would be a combo of speed and thrills for me: ski jumping looks like so much fun! And it’s my favorite on the Wii so I can’t go wrong, right?
