The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards may be known as the British equivalent of the Oscars, but the fashion is certainly a lot more fun than what we see on the Oscar’s red carpet. The 2010 BAFTAs were held this past weekend, with a substantial group of American actors hitting the red carpet among a sea of Brits and other international thespians. Here’s how the showdown between the Yanks and the Brits went.
Representing the Americans: Kristen Stewart did her sullen-girl thing in white this time. It may have been a Chanel dress, but the look was still very Kristen Stewart: no accessories, messy black hair and bored stare. But, it worked for her. It was fine.
The ladies from “Up in the Air” went for two very different looks. Vera Farmiga went for a one-shoulder cascading white gown with black waistband. While Anna Kendrick chose a short and flirty ruffled yellow Pucci. Jeremy Renner also deserves a shout out for holding his own against the English gentlemen known for their dapper style in a three-piece tuxedo and tie.
And in the Corner for the Brits: Kate Winslet knocked it out of the park by tweaking her classic style just a bit in a black Stella McCartney dress with lace detailing at the sides. Kristin Scott Thomas looked great as well, once she took off her Gothic black fur shrug. Colin Firth was dashing. Duh! Robert Pattinson was a brooding heartthrob. Double duh! But, Jane Goldman and Jaime Winstone’s costumey looks perplexed me. I guess British humor isn’t the only thing about the English that I don’t get.
But, the best-dressed woman of the night was neither American nor Brit. It was French actress Audrey Tautou. Her bubblegum pink Lanvin dress was a perfect balance of quirk and elegance. Paired with red shoes and clutch, it was sickeningly sweet and oh so perfect!

I love Audrey, she looks great!
