Sometimes models just don’t want to be confined to the runway. Recently, several top models have defected from the catwalk and landed in Hollywood. Most recently, it was top model Agyness Deyn that made the move from modeling to movies. But she’s not the first or only model quitting her day job. And she surely wont be the last.
Agy plays a jilted courtesan in the short film “Mean to Me,” a stylish film noir set in the 1930s. The film premiered in New York last week. But it’s doubtful that anyone outside the director’s immediate circle of friends will ever see it. Nevertheless, Agyness is set on continuing her run at being an actress. Much like her fellow catwalk darling, Gemma Ward, who scored a small part in the creepy 2008 horror flick “The Strangers” and also starred that year in the Australian movie “The Black Balloon.” Ward, who was dating Heath Ledger shortly before his death, said the late actor gave her advice about her budding acting career. Strangely enough, Ledger’s final film, “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” tied him to yet another model-cum-actress. Lily Cole, the redhead known for closing many a show for Christian Lacroix, played Ledger’s captivating young love interest.
The beguiling Cole has the best shot of becoming the next Cameron Diaz or Milla Jovovich, who both went from model to successful actress rather effortlessly. She might even have a shot of achieving Charlize Theron heights. From model to Oscar-winner, Charlize certainly takes the cake for the best model-turned-actress success story.
