Celebrate National Cupcake Day 2010!

cupcakes-1Move over, National Pancake Day and National Margarita Day, because this day, today,  takes the cake. Or the CUPcake. That’s right, March 3, 2010 is National Cupcake Day, according to…well, my stomach. My favorite cupcake place has always been Crumbs Bake Shop, which has locations in Los Angeles and New York. Their current Cupcake of the Month is called Half Baked, featuring half marble cake with vanilla frosting (and cookie crumbs) and half chocolate fudge with brownie pieces. Whoa. You can’t really go wrong with any of Crumbs’ flavors, though!

Other famous cupcakeries include the adorable Magnolia Bakery in New York and Sprinkles Cupcakes, which has locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Newport Beach, Scottsdale, Palo Alto and Washington, DC. They’ve also got a lot of new locations coming soon!

I know what you’re thinking, your diet just doesn’t really have room for those unhealthy cupcakes. So let me try to talk you into it. First, cupcakes are (ideally) serving-sized, so it’s better than making a whole cake and then eating too much! Also, if you let yourself indulge in something tasty, you might be less likely to reach for more unsatisfying diet food and overeat!

If you’re still not convinced, you can always try making healthy cupcakes at home. Here’s one recipe! And there’s always the old use-applesauce-instead-of-oil with a boxed cake mix plan.
