Saturday Night Live has always been funniest when the show satirizes current political issues. They’ve taken that strategy to Will Ferrell’s FunnyOrDie.com, with a new SNL presidents reunion in a seriously funny call for financial reform in Washington, D.C.
Check out the video:
The politicos include Ronald Reagan (Jim Carrey), George W. Bush (Will Ferrell), Bill Clinton (Darrell Hammond), Gerald Ford (Chevy Chase), Jimmy Carter (Dan Aykroyd), and George W. Bush (Dana Carvey). In the video directed by Ron Howard, they haunt Barack (a fabulously on-point Fred Armisen) and bicep-curling Michelle Obama (Maya Rudolph). As they blame each other for the country’s current economic troubles, the real message is that we must urge Congress to pass real financial reform and create a Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
“To see all these fake presidents together at once in a fake White House bedroom with fake wigs was very fake inspiring,” said Adam McKay, cofounder of Funny or Die, said in a statement (according to E News).
At the end of the video, the actors urge viewers to call 866-544-7573 or visit mainstreetbrigade.org. I hope their star power can result in some real change! The new credit card legislation just isn’t enough.
