Zoe Saldana was recently named MaxMara’s “Face of the Future” and honored with a small celebration attended by friends, family and fashion industry folk. Obviously, Saldana had a monumental 2009, starring in two out-of-this-world blockbusters, “Star Trek” and “Avatar.” And she really stepped out as a fashion muse on red carpets everywhere. No doubt, her future is bright. But before we move forward, let’s take a look back at some of her fashion and movies from the past.

Any girl in her teens during the first couple years of the 21st century probably saw both “Crossroads” and “Center Stage.” (Although they may not want to admit it now.) Saldana played a sidekick in both, but she really had no profile outside of those films. No huge red carpet moments to speak of. She continued her career with small roles in more legitimate films like “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” and ”The Terminal.” Then her career broke loose last year and now Saldana’s got a roster of five films in the works, including a “Star Trek” sequel slated for 2012.

So what about the fashion? Let’s just say, this girl knows how to work a dress. All of her red carpet appearances in 2009 prove it. Whether it be short and sexy, romantic and glamorous or avant-garde, she can pull them all off. It’s hard to pick just one look as my favorite, but I’d have to say this white cut-out dress worn by Zoe at an event honoring Chloe designer Hannah MacGibbon is a definite front runner.

The future for Zoe is damn bright!
