Weekend Movie Preview: “Alice in Wonderland”

I have been ready to drop down the rabbit hole ever since I first heard Tim Burton was going to be putting his unique twist on the treasured, childhood classic, “Alice in Wonderland.” It’s the hype of Hollywood this week, and with little else to choose from, you can bet finding a seat in the theater this weekend won’t be easy. But braving the crowds can be exciting, so if you’re looking for a little fun, the movies is the place to be.

This isn’t the first time Tim Burton’s put his brand on an old classic. In 1999, he took on “Sleepy Hollow” and in 2001 it was “Planet of the Apes,” 2005 brought us “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and in 2007 he brought “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” to the big screen. As has become expected from Burton’s casting history, Helena Bonham-Carter and Johnny Depp both appear in “Alice in Wonderland” (PG), along with Anne Hathaway, Alan Rickman, Crispin Glover and Mia Wasikowska, as Alice. “Alice in Wonderland” promises to be an exciting flick for the whole family, whether you catch it in 3-D, Imax 3-D, or the plain old big screen.

Action fans will want to check out “Brooklyn’s Finest” (R). Directed by Anton Fuquaa, “Brooklyn’s Finest” follows the story of three New York City police officers in the midst of an illegal drug operation. Each officer’s circumstances push him to limits he never expected to cross, putting loyalties, and their commitment to the law, on the line.

With only two films to choose from this weekend, that may not seem like a lot. Nevertheless, “Alice in Wonderland” looks like it’s going to be amazing. I’ve got my glasses, hopefully I’ll see you at the theater this Friday–in 3-D!
