Last night’s Oscars went along mostly as expected, with Sandra Bullock snagging her first Best Actress Academy Award for The Blindside. The red-lipped 45 year-old who had a monumental 2009 (her romcom The Proposal was also a huge hit) didn’t seem completely surprised, but still gave a heartfelt speech dedicated to moms across the world. Check out the video:
Sandra acknowledged all the women in her category: Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Gabourey Sidibe and Carey Mulligan. “Meryl, you know what I think of you and you are such a good kisser,” she said, causing Meryl to turn away, laughing. According to Entertainment Weekly, Sandra kissed Meryl at the Critic’s Choice Awards, and Sandra’s clearly not going to forget about it anytime soon!
“I would like to thank what this film is about for me, which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children, no matter where they come from.” She also gave a special shout out to the Tuohy family and mom LeAnne, which her character from The Blind Side came from.
Sandra grew teary while thanking her mother for “reminding her daughters that there’s no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation, that makes us better than anyone else. We are all deserving of love.”
