Gabourey Sidibe may have earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Precious, but she hasn’t made a fan out of Howard Stern. According to The Huffington Post, the shock jock had some pretty vicious things to say about the 26-year-old actress on his Sirius satellite radio show yesterday. Take a listen:
“There’s the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone’s pretending she’s a part of show business and she’s never going to be in another movie,” he said. “She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she’s never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in?”
He and co-host Robin Quivers went on to discuss the impossibility of Gabby working in Hollywood post-Precious.
“And Oprah’s lying and saying you’re going to have a brilliant career,” Robin said.
“Oprah’s another liar, a filthy liar,” said Stern. “She’s telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she’s going to have a career.”
Right now, they’re dead wrong. Gabby does already have work lined up: she’s set to appear on the new Showtime series The C Word and her next big-screen appearance will be opposite Zoe Kravitz in the drama Yelling to the Sky.
Is it really necessary to bash Gabby? She is a wonderful actress and I’m sure she’s already fully aware that she’s not the same size as most young women in Hollywood. She’s already accomplished things that most actresses only dream about. Maybe weight isn’t everything.

Seriously. You know, acting isn’t only about looks. Its about how you can fit yourself and your life experience into the storytelling process. The best films don’t usually have supermodels in the lead roles. I hope she continues to book amazing roles.
The issue here is that, while she isn’t a supermodel, she is NOT someone who could just jump into an “average joe” role either. That’s what bothers me. I dont bemoan the girl but she’s not just a little bigger like Kathy Bates or the curvy woman from MadMen. She’s incredibly obese and there aren’t many people like her in real life, nevermind the screen. I just wish people who are defending her would at least admit that most roles don’t call for someone who is morbidly obese.
It’s ignorant people like Howard Stern and others who make it so difficult for people in our society to accept each other for who we are. The funny thing is, he has never been nominated for an Oscar, and God forbid something happens to him where he’s on a medication that will cause him to gain weight or even lose weight beyond recognition. He’s not a shock jock, he’s an ignorant, racist fool who has a “yessim sir” side kick who should be as equally ashamed of herself when she’s not small by a long shot. Good for Gabby for playing such a wonderful role and having such a beautiful spirit that God has blessed you with the opportunity of a lifetime. Keep your head up Gabby and God will continue to bless you all the days of your life.
Just because a woman is “morbidly obese” doesn’t mean they can’t jump into any role. A beautiful woman is a beautiful woman no matter what size she is. I can see her playing any part she wants and I’d go watch her. Stereotypes are only there because we let them be there. Also, the average American woman is a size 16 or larger so she does represent a good part of the country as a whole. I think we should see less of the stick actresses and more of women like Gabby.
Troy you are the ignorant one… How is he racist (please explain this)??? God blessed her with a beautiful spirit well he also blessed her with an extremely dangerous health condition then~. Also how can you possibly compare Robin to Gabby when it comes to weight, are you insane (do some research before you put your foot in your mouth)?
Just because she may be a great person don’t fill her with false hope that she’ll be more successful then anyone just because she was nominated for an oscar.
And what is so funny about “never been nominated for an Oscar” Do you for any moment think that this makes her more successful? Troy take your blinders off and open your eyes to the real world.
why would anyone listen to howard stern? when did he become a expert on beauty and talent ?when howard stern opens his mouth consider the source………..
I said the same thing less the bashing when thinking about Gabby. I’m a plus sized diva myself who wears an 18. so speaking for Gabby, looking at Hollywood it would be insane of her to think she’s going to get role after role unless it’s for Tyler or Oprah. However, I think she a tremendous talent to have never taken an acting lesson and auditioned as a way of making extra money to pay for school. Hopefully, Gabby won’t be blinded by stars and continue her education. As for her size, and this is coming from a girl who used to weigh 420 lbs, Gabby it would be in your best interest to do something about the weight sweetie. right now you may not have any health risks as I didn’t until I hit thirty and was diagnosed with diabetes. my body started having a mind of it’s own doing all kinds of crazy stuff and let’s not get on hormonal and the female issues that I was plagued with. I think Gabby is a BEAUTIFUL girl, but I would love to see her do something about her weight. You dont have to be a stick figure, just healthy.

I can’t believe Howard could outright talk about this young lady that way, Gabby is a wonderful young lady, This movie was simply to get a message out to anyone going through similar situations, You are just as bad as the mother in the movie!!!! But I know she will not let this ruffle her beautiful feathers, I hope they change their minds about you taking Simons place on American Idol personally,I don’t like you very well right now and I never will support anyone who will talk about someone who can outright talk about someone like that!!!!!!That goes for your sidekick too whoever she was or isn’t!!!!!!!!!!!!
