And the Bride Wore Anthropologie

Are you a loyal Anthropologie customer with a serious boyfriend who just might propose soon? Then you’re in luck! Urban Outfitters Inc. has announced that it will launch a bridal line through its Anthropologie brand come Spring 2011. Start saving your money now, girls!

Actually, you don’t even have to save all that much to be an Anthropologie bride. No more than, say, if you wanted to be a J.Crew bride. Or a Kleinfeld bride. The “heirloom” dresses start at $750 and top-out at around $5,000, which in the world of wedding dresses is fairly reasonable. The bridal shop, which will also include bridesmaid dresses, gifts and accessories, will launch as a website where brides can schedule local fittings.

You might say I’m familiar with the Anthropologie aesthetic. Once a salivating customer, I have been a part-time employee now for a couple years. Yes, the merchandise is expensive, but it is beautiful and unique as well. Ethereal and bohemian. And isn’t that what every bride wants to be on her wedding day? I can tell you that in my time working at their Los Angeles store I have helped numerous girls shop for bridesmaid dresses. And, yes, I’ve even helped a bride who wanted the perfect outfit for her courthouse nuptials. All that to say, this bridal concept seems like a logical step for the brand. After all, bloggers have seen Anthropologie’s wedding potential for years now.

So, now that I know where to shop for my dress, the only thing left to find is the guy. Hm.
