What is wrong with Crystal Bowersox? According to MTV News, the singer-songwriter’s diabetes sends her in and out of the hospital, making it difficult to keep performing on American Idol this season. The Ohio native isn’t your usual poppy contestant, but her dreadlocks and soulful, retro voice have won over the country.
Last night, Idol revealed its Top 12 Finalists for the ninth season of the hit show. Crystal has emerged as a frontrunner, with her standout performances of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Long As I Can See The Light” and Tracey Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason.” Check out the video of latter:
We already knew Crystal had mad harmonica skills…and girl can rock an electric guitar, too! It’d be easy to say that she’s winning people over with her health sob story, but it’s clear that she has the talent to back up her status. What does she think about being the frontrunner? It’s flattering. I’m not letting anything go to my head, though,” she said. “It’s definitely up for grabs, it’s still up in the air. We don’t know who’s gonna win! But it’s flattering to hear. Everyone’s really talented.”
Well, kudos to her for being modest and diplomatic, but given the lackluster performances we’ve seen from some of the other contestants, I’m not sure that’s true. It’s Crystal all the way!
