GEN ART Kicks Off LA Fashion Week

Last night, Los Angeles 2010 Fashion week kicked off with Gen Art’s Fashion Alumni Celebration held at the Tropicana Bar at the Hotel Roosevelt. The Twirlit crew had a chance to stop by the evening’s festivities to see 20 of Gen Art’s most successful LA-based alumni and preview looks from this upcoming runway season.

Participating designers included Brigid Catiis, Eduardo Lucero, Elmer Ave, Endovanera, Erik Hart, Freddie Rojas, Geren Ford, Wren, Grey Ant, Jared Gold, Jeffrey Sebelia, Katy Rodriguez, Kit Scarbo, Louis Verdad, Orthodox, Rami Kashou and Society for Rational Dress. The evening was hosted by Amber Rose, former Ford fashion model and current Kanye West gal pal.

As we sipped the complimentary Kim Crawford wine and listened to the beats by POSSO, the DJ, we were a bit surprised to see so much of the crowd wearing black. Is this NY or LA? Just an observation, but check out the fashions sported by the models and celebrities that took more of a fashion risk. Celebs included actresses Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter, The Exorcism of Emily Rose), Ashley Jones (True Blood, The Bold and the Beautiful), Julia Anderson (True Beauty winner), Kali Hawk (Couples Retreat), Vail Bloom (The Young and The Restless) and Rochelle Aytes (The Forgotten), actor Edin Gail (Mad Men), musician Jason LaRocca (The Briggs), Project Runway designer Mila Hermanovksi and model Holly Ridings, and many more.

The goal of the evening was to celebrate the fashion contributions of current and emerging Los Angeles design talent. Mission accomplished.
