Sticking to my commitment to stop having flings and one night stands has been a bit more challenging than I thought it would be. My voracious appetite for sex is not the only reason why.
For some strange reason, I thought the real dates would just happen. Someone, somewhere would dial my number and ask me to dinner. I’d say yes. They’d pick me up and I’d worry about what to wear before they came over. I had this whole silly little fantasy mapped out in my mind. You know, projecting it “The Secret” style if you know what I mean.
Well, I should have projected the part where the man who called me for a real date was straight. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my gay guy friends. They keep me grounded, have great dance music at the bars they take me to, and tell me I’m beautiful and sexy like it’s their job.
I decided to head out on my gay-date night with my friend Jared, who insisted on picking me up and taking me to dinner. Although I did not panic about what to wear and realized this didn’t necessarily count as a real date, I had a great time. We went to dinner and to his local hangout where I danced the night away – never once worrying about whether someone was checking me out or scoping the room for someone to flirt with.
After having a hot guy pay the bill, dance with me, and tell me how smoking hot I looked all night, the only thing missing was knowing the night was going to end with sex. And to be honest, I felt relieved.
Although a real date has been hard to come by, I think I’ve learned a valuable lesson from my gay guy friends. I deserve a guy who will treat me the way they do. Granted, I want the part where they also want to have sex with me. So now I’m on the hunt for my straight date with a gay man’s manners. Does that exist?
