6 Signs You’re in a Healthy Relationship

Life is full of relationships and although many are great sources of joy and support others are toxic and can slowly tear you down. There are many theories on why we allow (and sometimes seek out) negative or abusive situations but to some extent we all do. How healthy are your current relationships? Read through these 6 signs and see how your friends stack up, your family, and perhaps most importantly your significant other.

Loyalty Having people in your life that ‘have your back’ no matter what, and that will be there to listen and forgive you even when you do something you’re not proud of, is invaluable.

Respect is the foundation of every healthy relationship, and it goes both ways. Nobody enjoys spending time with people that make them feel inadequate, insecure, or belittled. A good friend will treat you with kindness and respect always.

Unconditionally there A real friend is someone who is consistently there for you and wants you in their life because they genuinely like you, not because they need something from you or are using you in some way.

Trustworthy In a healthy relationship you should be able to take the other person at their word, and trust that they not only say what they mean but that they will keep your confidence and not go blabbing your secrets to other people.

Taking an interest Positive relationships involve taking a genuine interest in how others are feeling and what’s happening in their lives. A true friend will ask you how things are going and will take the time to listen when you answer.

Dependability Sometimes life throws a wrench in previously made plans but a true friend will be there when they say they will more often than not. People who frequently “flake out” and are no-shows for important events are demonstrating a lack of respect, trustworthiness, and interest.
