American Idol frontrunner Crystal Bowersox promised a surprise this week, and she delivered! The folky boho blonde had a bit of a makeover, with a belted rick red dress, black stilettos and more glamorous makeup. I’m not sure about the dress, but the heels and makeup looked great.
The bigger surprise was her choice to leave behind her usual acoustic guitar for the piano, which she says she hadn’t played in years. Could she be comfortable with it and still deliver top-notch vocals? Take a look at the video of her performance of “Midnight Train to Georgia”:
I actually agree with Simon that the piano made her uncomfortable. Unlike in her other performances, Crystal’s nerves came through. Still, I am glad that she’s interested in trying new things, since great music often comes from artists taking risks. Simon recommended that she stop trying to be someone she’s not, because she’s one of few artists who already knows exactly what she should be doing.
Do you agree with him? Should Crystal stay inside her impressive but usual comfort zone? At some point on American Idol she’s going to have to rock a Broadway showtune or Elton John song or something…it’ll be interesting to see how she handles that!
i think Crystal is the grate and I hope she sticks it out till the end because she is one of a kind and she is a winner.
