Online Dating Lies

If you haven’t charted the waters of the online dating world as of yet, there is reason to steer clear.  Aside from the obvious reason (no one ever looks better than their online picture) research shows that both male and female users lie about important information when setting up their account.

If you’re a guy and can get over the lies a woman may post, it may be worth it since one in three women have sex on their first date with an online suitor.

According to the study by OnlineSchools, women lie most about their weight, build and age while men lie most about their age, height and income.  While it is easy to lie about how much money you make, I am a bit confused as to the advantage of lying about age, height, or weight.

If the goal of online dating is to actually go on a real date at some point, isn’t there going to be a time when you will be confronted with the fact that 125 pounds is really 150 pounds?  Or that 5’11 is really 5’6?  Uncovering the truth about weight and height will only take one meeting.

I suppose the goal is to seduce someone enough online that they won’t care about the four less inches in height or the 25 excess pounds, but starting a relationship off with deceit guarantees failure.  And imagine the disappointment when your date rolls up in his Ford Focus instead of the BMW he’s posing next to.

Granted online dating can yield some fun dates, if you end up meeting someone who lied about the basic stats just to get a date, let it be a warning sign of lies to come.
