Normally, I would never pay $18.00 for something like a cuticle remover. That’s pretty expensive and you know as well as I do that expensive doesn’t always mean better than the rest. However, Lippmann Cuticle Remover is one of the exceptions to the rule especially if you have problem cuticles like mine. As a make up artist, it is important to me that my hands always look clean and well-kept as nobody would want me touching their face otherwise. Since I do my own manicures, I pony up the cash for this expensive little luxury simply because it’s the best cuticle remover I have ever used.
Designed by celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann, (I think every celebrity in New York is a client) her cuticle remover is infused with Lanolin to keep the cuticles hydrated and can be used within 30 seconds of application. Most cuticle removers recommend you let them sit on the cuticle for a few minutes before pushing them back so with this remover your manicure will go much faster. It comes in a glass polish bottle with a dropper and brush included, there is no strange odor and it leaves your skin more hydrated than most removers. Just to clarify, a cuticle remover does not actually remove the cuticle from the nail bed as its job is to soften the cuticle surrounding the nail. It then loosens the skin that is growing on top of the nail, so that you can push them back without traumatizing nail bed.
How to Use:
On clean dry hands, apply a small amount of remover to each nail allowing it to sit on the nail for about 30 seconds. (Its okay if you go over it won’t hurt you.) Using an orangewood stick, gently push back your cuticles using a gentle circular motion. This particular remover will create a white milky build up around the nail and you will see it working removing even the toughest, thickest of cuticles with ease. Repeat on all nails and rinse thoroughly when finished. For some tips on giving yourself a home manicure, you can read great article on home manicures here (of course, I wrote it so it’s greatness is in my own mind).
You should never cut your cuticles in anyway so if you or your manicurist are cutting them please stop. Cutting away the cuticle only makes them grow back thicker and uneven by exposing the sensitive skin underneath. A good manicurist or a little practice can achieve the same look by pushing the cuticle back with and you can always bring in your Lippmann Cuticle Remover to your nail salon for your manicurist to use on you instead. By the way, if your nail salon or manicurist won’t use the products you want even though you provide them yourself, go somewhere else.
