Lin Yu Chin: The Next Susan Boyle? (VIDEO)

Lin Yu Chin is being called “the next Susan Boyle.” According to The Washington Post, the Taiwanese guy with a red bowtie and severe bowl cut wowed the judges on Super Star Avenue, the country’s equivalent of American Idol. He sang a pitch-perfect rendition of Whitney Houston’s old standard “I Will Always Love You” from The Bodyguard. Check out the video:

Lin, 24, is already a YouTube sensation, with one version of the vid garnering over 2 million hits. “I now have more confidence in pursuing a singing career,” Lin toldĀ The Associated Press in a phone interview. “You don’t have to be a good-looking man or woman to succeed. Just be yourself and try your best.”

Lin admits he suffered from a lack of self-confidence because of his plain looks and weight. “Being fat draws a lot of mockery in our society,” he said.

To cope with being taunted, Lin would locked himself in his room and sing along to songs by Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. But “I Will Always Love You” was the song that really gave him the confidence to keep going. “I played it again and again even though my parents couldn’t stand it anymore and asked me to stop,” Lin said.

Aww. What an inspirational guy! It’ll be interesting to see if he really does follow in the footsteps of Susan Boyle, getting the star makeover and hit album.
