Shania Twain Gets a New Reality Show, “Why Not?”
Country-pop star Shania Twain is getting a new reality show on Oprah’s OWN cable network – and for Shania, it’s the dawning of a new chapter in her life. According to People Magazine, it’s a way for her to cope with the heartache she felt after her marriage dissolved.
“I feel like in a way I’m starting over, with everything,” Shania, 44, told Oprah in an interview at an event in New York on Thursday. “This is a very personal experience that I think is important to share. This is an experience of recovery.”
Shania’s marriage of 14 years to Robert “Mutt” Lange ended in May 2008 because of Mutt’s relationship with Shania’s longtime friend and assistant, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. ”There were moments when I really just thought, I don’t need anything and I don’t need anyone,” Shania said of the tough months that followed. “I just want to go away and disappear. So, that was a bad slump.”
Shania’s upcoming show, Why Not? With Shania Twain, follows her life as she recovers from the slump. As for the title: ”One day, someone said to me, ‘Do you want to go jump out of an airplane?’ ” she said. “I felt like I had nothing to lose anymore, so I said, ‘Why not?’ And every day since then, I ask myself that question.”
Interestingly, Shania is now dating Marie-Anne’s ex-husband, Frederic. I guess the title Wife Swap was already taken.
