I don’t know about you, but the weather in my neck of the woods has been beautiful these last two weeks. Barbecue weather, to be precise. Unfortunately, a cold front moved in this weekend, and I had to pull out my jacket again just to walk outside and get the mail. Since it’s going to be like this all weekend, I’ll be staying indoors, which means heading out to the movies!
Steve Carell and Tina Fey team up in the romantic comedy, “Date Night” (PG-13). A suburban couple trying to keep the spice in their relationship goes on a weekly date night together. Unfortunately, the same old routines are tiring them out, rather than keeping the zest in the relationship. When they watch another couple fall apart, they decide they need to go one step further and step outside their comfort zone. They head out to a hot new restaurant in the city, but not having reservations, they can’t get a table. Stealing another couple’s identity to get a table, they find themselves up to their eyeballs in the other couple’s theiving and double-dealing lifestyle.
“Letters to God” (PG) tells the story of a mail man who finds himself the carrier of a young boy’s letters to God. Stricken with cancer, the boy writes regularly to God, and the mail carrier isn’t sure what to do with them. His own life is open-ended, leaving him feeling like he isn’t living to the fullest. The letters help him restore hope to the family, and life to a little boy who’s childhood was taken away by disease. This looks like a serious tearjerker, gals, and I can’t wait to pack up my tissues to go see it!
Christina Ricci, Justin Long and Liam Neesan star in “After Life” (R), a psychological thriller about a young woman who wakes up after a car accident on the funeral director’s table being prepared for her funeral. Not convinced she is dead, she begs the director to prove to her that she’s no longer among the living. The funeral director tells her he as the ability to communicate with the dead, and he’s there to help her cross over. Her boyfriend can’t accept the fact that she’s dead, and he believes there’s something fishy going on, but will it be too late by the time he uncovers the truth? Okay, scratch my love for tearjerkers. I am totally going to see After Life this weekend!
I cannot wait to get out to the movies this weekend. I hope to see you there!
