Girl in Iowa Rocks a Gum Wrapper Prom Dress (VIDEO)

Don’t throw out your gum wrappers – you could use them to make a couture gown! According to KIMT, Iowa junior Elizabeth Rasmuson and her boyfriend Jordan Weaver will both be rocking outfits handmade from “Five” gum wrappers at their prom this weekend.

Elizabeth said, ”I heard about somebody making a dress out of duct tape or something one time so I just was like what’s something cool and I’ve always liked the colors of the “Five” gum.”

The idea started after Elizabeth made a jacket of wrappers last year and realized she could make a unique prom dress the same way. Elizabeth said, “we started collecting like the specific colors like at the very beginning of the year in August.”

Elizabeth stopped counting the wrappers after 200 – and no, she didn’t chew all the gum. “She bought a ton of gum and gave it out to friends and then would collect the wrappers back,” Weaver said. He’s working on his own matching vest.

Since wrappers are fragile, Elizabeth has coated the dress with vinyl.

Elizabeth’s mom Dawn Rasmuson couldn’t be more proud. “I think it’s really admirable for her I mean she’s a junior in high school and in today’s world a lot of the girls are worried about fitting in; they don’t want to stand out for wrong reason so it’s really cool and so unique,” she said.

Looks like we have a future Project Runway contestant on our hands!
