4 Rules for Youthful, Flattering Hair

When it comes to looking younger most women focus on the way their skin looks and how they do their makeup, but hair can actually be just as big a player as either of those since it frames your face. It has a major impact and can easily add or subtract years to your overall look. For the youngest, most vibrant ‘do follow these rules.

You’re never too old to wear bangs but soft and textured is easier to pull off than blunt or highly styled. Side-swept and layered makes almost everyone look younger.

You’re never too old for long hair as long as it’s healthy. Layers are a must (save the ‘all one length’ cuts for kids and teenagers) and get them touched up and trimmed regularly as hair gets drier and more brittle as you age.

Focus on hydration because much of what makes hair look dull and lifeless as it ages is loss of moisture. Avoid hair products containing drying alcohols (denatured, propanol, propyl, and isopropyl) and consider adding a rich leave-in conditioner to your routine.

Choose the right color which for most women means staying within one or two shades of their natural base color. Too dark will look severe and draw attention to wrinkles, but too light and you risk washing out your complexion.
