How to Choose the Most Flattering Summer Skirt

The thing about fashion is that not every style looks good on every body, so understanding what flatters your specific figure is key to looking and feeling your best. Spring and summer is a great time to wear skirts (not only do they look fabulous but they’re cool in the heat) and this season’s bold prints and bright colors will flatter every figure as long they’re cut into the right style. Here’s a brief guide to choosing skirts that will best show your assets.

Accentuate your waist with a circle skirt, which draws the eye out and down and gives you a slimmer-looking middle.

Hide wide hips with an A-line or flared skirt that sits low on the waist. Knee-length is more flattering than short or long styles.

Add curves to a boyish figure with styles that have a thicker waistband and a fuller, swingier shape.

Camouflage a poochy stomach with a skirt that has draping or embellishments on the front.

Look taller in skirts that hit above the knee. Avoid below-the-knee lengths, especially those that hit mid-calf or lower, or look much shorter.

Balance a top-heavy figure with a flouncy, tiered skirt (but be sure to have a defined waist so you don’t end up heavy-looking all over).
