There are tons of home microdermabrasion systems out there and I would be lying if I said that this system is the best out there because this is the only one of those home vibrating/exfoliation contraptions I have ever tried. I received the DermaNew Facial Rejuvenation System as a gift and being the exfoliation junkie that I am, couldn’t wait to try it out.
The complete kit comes with a Dual Action Resurfacing Tool a dual sided device that offers two vibration speeds, one side is high the other side is low, a tube of their Sensitive Formula Microdermabrasion Creme, a large and small foam applicator and a pore cleansing brush. Oh, there is also a little stand for the tool and it’s battery operated so I guess the stand is so that people don’t get the wrong idea when they see it. I swear so many of these things are obscene looking. One of the nice features of the DermaNew system is that the microdermabrasion tool is water resistant so you can use it in the shower which saves me a ton of time.
It’s easy to use too, after cleansing I applied the cream to the smaller foam applicator and scrubbed my face using a upward, circular motion for 2 minutes. The tool has an internal timer that shuts off automatically after two minutes so you can’t overdo it and damage your face. The cream has a nice fine grit best for normal/combination skin and with the foam application you can barely feel it working. It really takes the sting out of microdermabrasion although I didn’t feel any difference in pressure moving the applicator from the low side to the high side. It felt the same no matter what so I just keep it on the high side now.
The instructions recommend using it 2-3 times per week but the results are so nice I’m tempted to use it everyday. My skin looks great when I use it diminishing fine lines and leaving a really healthy looking glow with almost no sensitivity or redness. It looks almost as good as my skin does after a professional treatment and that’s good enough for me. The pore cleansing brush is a nice bonus too, it works well on make up and I’ve used it to cleanse my face on the days I’m not using the crystals with great results. I’m sure they don’t want you to use it this way but I’ve used the brush over the eyes and it removes all of my eye make up easily and effectively.
However there are a few downsides to this system: it’s expensive, the foam applicators are replaceable but they are not easily available and in my case have to be ordered and the cream started to dry out faster than I would have liked. The foam applicators having to be ordered is the most annoying because there isn’t a generic alternative and unless you are MacGyver these are the only ones that will work. I know that when I run out of the ones I have it is going to be a while until I get around to ordering more sponges no matter how much I like the results.
