Cuddle Hormone Makes Men More Sensitive

Could the so-called cuddle hormone make your man more sensitive to your feelings? A group of German and British scientists seem to thinks so.

The scientists studied the effects of a nasal spray containing oxytocin, a neurotransmitter  best known for its roles in female reproduction.  The spray was tested on a group of 48 men; once they snorted the spray, the men were shown “photos of emotionally charged situations including a crying child, a girl hugging her cat, and a grieving man”.

The men who got the cuddle hormone said they had stronger  feelings (read: empathy) toward the subject matter than the control group men who received no cuddle hormone.

According to the BBC’s Emma Wilkinson, “Those who had the hormone spray had markedly higher levels of empathy – of a similar magnitude to those only usually seen in women who are naturally more sensitive to the feelings of others.”

Evidently, the oxytocin spray improved the men’s “socially motivated learning”, when a test in which they were shown a happy face for every right answer and a mad face for every wrong one showed that the cuddle hormone spray made the positive and negative feedback more effective, and helped the men improve test scores faster.

Researchers say the spray could be useful in therapies for autism, learning disabilities, or even schizophrenia.

What do you think — would you want your man to be more sensitive if it was as easy as using a nasal spray?
