Who’s a Better Marilyn Monroe? Naomi Watts vs. Michelle Williams

Two of Hollywood’s hottest blondes, Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams, are getting ready to play iconic bombshell Marilyn Monroe on the big screen.

Michelle Williams is set to play Ms. Monroe in My Week With Marilyn, which documents the time Marilyn spent in England filming 1957′s The Prince and the Showgirl with Sir Laurence Olivier. Slated to film this September, My Week With Marilyn will be produced by David Parfitt, who won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love. Will Williams be able to muster up Marilyn’s signature come-hither gaze and sex-kitten vibe? No word on who’s pegged to play Olivier, but we know Ralph Fiennes has dropped out to direct his own project. Too bad! We love Ralph!

The second upcoming Marilyn Monroe movie casts fair haired Brit Naomi Watts as Marilyn in an upcoming biopic based on author Joyce Carol Oates’s best-selling controversial, semi-fictional memoir of Monroe called Blonde. Word is the movie starts filming in January, and will be directed by Director Andrew Dominik of The Assassination of Jesse James. Methinks Naomi will need to find herself some serious curves to truly play Marilyn, no?

While Marilyn has  been portrayed over the decades in millions of photos, tv shows and smaller films by stars from Madonna and Kylie Minogue to Mira Sorvino and Charlize Theron, no one has really tackled the role of Marilyn in a big box-office production.

The voluptuous Scarlet Johansson apparently declined the role of Marilyn in My Week With Marilyn, but why? She certainly has the curves and the sex appeal! Did ScarJo bow out because the pressure to represent the sex symbol is immense?

All we can say is good luck to Naomi and Michelle. Ladies, you’ve got your work cut out for you! Embodying Marilyn’s  inimitable mix of innocence and sexuality will be no small feat!

Which Hollywood starlet do you think would make the best Marilyn on the big screen today?
