Bret Michaels Back in Hospital – Medical Update

Bret MichaelsBret Michaels had high hopes of returning to the stage at the end of May – and the New York City Finale of The Celebrity Apprentice this weekend – but a medical setback has made it difficult for Bret to put those hopes into reality.

Bret Michaels is back in the hospital today, he revealed on his Facebook page, after suffering numbness on the left side of his body.

After being checked by doctors, it was concluded that Bret had suffered from a Transient Ischematic Attack, also known as a warning stroke.

Afterwards, doctors performed an Ultrasound Bubble test where they discovered Michaels has a hole in his heart.

As devastating as this news is to Bret and his family, there is a silver lining. Doctors say they don’t believe the warning stroke is related to his recent brain hemorrhage and are taking steps to solve the problem. Bret is now receiving a daily injection of Lovenox to help thin the blood and prevent blood clots. Doctors also reveal that the hole in Bret’s heart is operable and treatable and believe they’ve found the issue that caused the warning stroke.

It’s been a tough year for Bret, who has suffered many health setbacks. In June of 2009, Bret hit his head while performing at the Tony awards. In April of 2010 he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis which nearly cost him his life. In late April, in what doctor’s call an unrelated incident (to his appendix or hitting his head), the Poison front man suffered from a brain hemorrhage that had many thinking the worst. Now, just weeks after recovering from a brain hemorrhage, Michaels is back in the hospital after suffering a warning stroke and finding a whole in his heart. Two more conditions doctors believe are unrelated.

We sincerely hope that Bret Michaels recovers fully. Perhaps forgoing his summer tour and this weekend’s finale of Celebrity Apprentice are the best things for Bret right now.

As much as Donald Trump claims he has Bret’s best interests at heart, you know he’s loving all of this publicity so close to the finale.

Do you think Bret should rush his recovery to attend the Celebrity Apprentice finale in New York City this weekend?

I have been following your condition. I suffered one stroke(Aug 01) and 1 TIA (Feb 2009 and have been on blood thinners and Lovonox shots. The worst thing about those shots after awhile is the pain in your abdomen from the shots. After Stroke 1 I was blind in one eye, facial numbness, short-term memory lose, and numbness in my right fingertips and toes. The blindness cleared up in two weeks and the other side effects took more time to be less noticeable. I never needed any type of physical therapy. Doctors found a Patent Foramen Ovule (PFO)at the Penn Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia in Feb. 2009. I had the hole closed in Nov. 2009 using a CardioSeal Septal Occluder Implant. I just found in April 2010 that the hole is now totally closed. The hole was fixed and no more blood thinners for me! I just take one 81 mg aspirin daily. I feel like a new person. When you have time, get on the internet and read up on your condition, how it is treated, and how it is fixed. The procedure for closure was very easy going through the groin with quick recovery. You are in my thoughts and prayers, remain positive, and get the best doctors you can find to fix that hole.
    Best wishes to you,
    Vicki
